Palak Dal

Palak Dal Recipe:


1 bunch  of Palak 
1 cup Arhar Dal
2 broken dry red chillies or 2 green chillies
1 onions finely chopped
2 chopped Tomatoes
1″ piece chopped or crushed ginger
3 flakes chopped garlic
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp red chilly powder
1 tsp ground cumin seeds or 1/2 tsp whole cumin seeds
1/2 tsp coriander powder
1 tbsp oil or ghee


Wash and soak dal in water for 30 minutes or 45 minutes. Cook the dal in a pressure cooker until 3/4 cooked.
Meanwhile, clean and chop the leaves of palak.
Heat 1 tbsp oil or ghee and fry the cumin seeds, chopped onion, ginger and garlic until soft in a pan. Add the tomatoes and the rest of the masala powders. Fry for 1-2 minutes.
Add the boiled dal, chopped palak and little water.Cook low heat until the dal and palak leaves become soft.
You can squeeze the lime juice over the dal just before serving. Lime juice gives a nice flavor to this spicy dal recipe.
